Manchester United scouts have been watching Spain under-21 left-back Aaron Martin in action in recent weeks, according to reports in the British media.

ESPN is reporting that the Red Devils have been keeping a close eye on Martin’s development and that scouts were in attendance to watch him play for Espanyol against Levante on Friday night.

The same report claims that Manchester United have asked Espanyol to keep them up to day about any potential developments as they consider a move for the defender.

Martin signed a new contract earlier this year to keep him at Espanyol until 2022.

However, the story claims that there is a growing acceptance that they Spanish club are likely to struggle to keep hold of him beyond the summer – or even the January transfer window.

The same report claims that Manchester City have also registered an interest in signing Marin, who has a €40m buyout clause in his current contract.

Manchester United have struggled to find a consistent performer at left-back since Jose Mourinho took over at Old Trafford back in May 2016.

The Red Devils return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to face newly-promoted Huddersfield.
