Ander Herrera has described Nemanja Matic as a “master” in midfield for Manchester United this season.

The Serbia international has been a regular fixture in the first team for Jose Mourinho’s men since he left Chelsea to sign for the Red Devils in the summer transfer window.

The move surprised many, because Matic had played a key role in helping Chelsea to win the Premier League title last season under Antonio Conte.

Matic has started all of Manchester United’s Premier League games so far this season and that has led to Herrera having fewer opportunities.

However, the Spain international insists that he is delighted to see Matic doing so well for his new club as the Red Devils look to try and challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Herrera is quoted as saying by Metro: “There will be a lot of games this season, so we will sometimes play with two and sometimes with three, so we have a lot of solutions.

“Matic is a master, one of the best in the world in that position, and I think he is going to help us a lot.

“With (Michael) Carrick and Matic I have two mentors that I can learn from.

“I know I can play more forward than them, when we play with three, so I will be there for the manager whenever he needs me. Sometimes as number six, sometimes as number eight, sometimes No10.”

Manchester United return to Premier League action after the international break with a crunch clash against local rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday 14 October.

The Red Devils are aiming to try and win the Premier League title for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge in the 2012-13 season.

Manchester United finished sixth last term but won both the Europa League and League Cup.
