Thierry Henry believes that Anthony Martial is Manchester United’s most gifted player and is backing the striker to enjoy a strong campaign this season.

The French forward endured something of a difficult season last term under Jose Mourinho as he struggled to find his best form in the Portuguese coach’s first campaign at the club.

However, Martial has been in top form so far this season and has scored three goals and made two assists in seven Premier League games.

Mourinho opted to start the 21-year-old for Manchester United’s clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday to underline his trust in the Frenchman.

And former Arsenal star Henry has explained just why he is such a big fan of the young attacker.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Saturday, Henry said: “I would go as far as saying he is the most gifted player that they have.

“But sometimes it’s not enough, you need to add something more to that.

“At the minute he is adding what’s missing, or what was missing. He wants to ‘kill’. You see when he even has just five minutes or 10 minutes, he’s making the difference.

“When you look at the impact he has on some of the goals of Manchester United, it’s second to none at the minute.

“Now, he needs to do it all the time. That’s when it becomes difficult.”

Martial will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Champions League action on Wednesday night with a trip to Portugal to take on Benfica.

The Red Devils will then switch their attentions back to Premier League affairs and their trip to Huddersfield on Saturday lunchtime.

Their draw with Liverpool left Manchester United second in the table and two points behind leaders Manchester City after eight games.
