Anthony Martial received praise from Nemanja Matic after the striker came off the bench to fire Manchester United to a 1-0 victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The French forward continued his fine start to the new season by netting his fourth goal of the campaign to hand Manchester United their first win in two Premier League outings.

The victory was a welcome one for Jose Mourinho’s men, who headed into the game on the back of their shock 2-1 loss to Huddersfield Town last weekend.

Martial has been in good form for Manchester United this season and has been regularly making an impact off the bench for Mourinho’s men.

And summer signing Matic was thrilled by Martial’s impact as the Red Devils claimed all three points against the Lilywhites on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Saturday’s game, Matic said: “It was important for us.

“We were playing against one of the best teams in the league, thanks to this guy [points at Anthony Martial] we managed to score and win this game.”

Manchester United will now turn their attentions back to Champions League affairs and their home clash against Benfica on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils were 1-0 winners over Benfica when the two teams met in Portugal earlier this month.

Manchester United are aiming to win the title this season for the first time since 2013.
