Jose Mourinho told Man United have world-class player needed to win the title

Garth Crooks has claimed that Manchester United’s David De Gea is the world-class goalkeeper that every title-winning team requires.

The Red Devils made the short trip to bitter rivals Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon looking to protect their unbeaten record.

Manchester United produced a disappointing performance at Anfield as Jose Mourinho’s struggled to test Simon Mignolet aside from Romelu Lukaku’s tame first-half effort.

Indeed, De Gea produced a world-class save to keep out Joel Matip’s close-range effort as Liverpool peppered Manchester United’s goal with 20 attempts.

The Red Devils are in second place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City following their 7-2 win against Stoke City.

Former Spurs legend Crooks believes Manchester United are fortunate to have a world-class performer like De Gea in a key position for Manchester United.

“Unfortunately for United it’s a while since they had a team capable of reclaiming the trophy they used to win on such a regular basis,” Crooks told BBC Sport.

“But if you are going to win the Premier League you need a world-class goalkeeper to do it, and I think we all agree that David de Gea is in that class.”

De Gea moved to Manchester United in a £19m deal from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the 2011 summer transfer window.

The Spanish goalkeeper was part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s final title-winning team in 2013 when Manchester United secured their 13th top-flight crown under their legendary manager.

Manchester United haven’t won the title since Ferguson’s final success four seasons ago.
