Jamie Redknapp is adamant that Manchester United’s point at Liverpool won’t cost them a 14th Premier League title this season.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been criticised for adopting a negative approach to their trip to Anfield as the Red Devils showed limited attacking adventure.

The 20-time English champions successfully managed to tame the Liverpool attack, and David De Gea produced a world-class save when the hosts were able to penetrate Manchester United’s defence.

Mourinho has now played out successive stalemates at Anfield over the past two seasons to prompt criticism of the Manchester United boss and his perceived negative tactics.

Manchester United are two points behind leaders Manchester City after eight games following the Citizens’ 7-2 win against Stoke City at the Etihad Stadium last weekend.

But former Liverpool and Spurs midfielder Redknapp is adamant that Manchester United’s point at Anfield was a positive result despite missing out on the possibility to lay down a marker with a big Premier League win on Merseyside.

“If Man United lose the league by a point, it won’t be the result at Liverpool that cost them,” Redknapp told The Debate on Sky Sports on Tuesday night.

Manchester United have score 21 times and kept seven clean sheets in their opening eight Premier League games this term.

The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the top flight last season.
