Phil Neville hailed Marcus Rashford’s relentless progression after the Manchester United striker scored a second-half winner in a 1-0 victory over Benfica on Wednesday night.

The England international was named in the Manchester United starting line-up for a Champions League game for the first time this season as Mourinho’s men made the trip to Portugal.

Rashford has scored two goals and has made three assists in his opening eight Premier League games this term, while the Manchester United striker scored on his Champions League debut in a 3-0 victory over Swiss outfit Basel at Old Trafford.

The 19-year-old striker registered his second goal of the 2017-18 season in Europe’s premier club competition with a fortuitous free-kick at the Estadio de Luz.

Benfica’s Champions Legue debutant carried the ball over his goal-line to give the visitors’ a slender lead and leave Manchester United in pole position in Group A.

Former Manchester United defender Neville heaped praise on Rashford for his winner and his overall performance at Benfica.

“He has been United’s best player since the start of the second half. He’s a sensational young player and he’s getting better,” Neville told BBC Sport.

Manchester United are sitting in second place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City.

The Red Devils will make the trip to promoted side Huddersfield Town in their next Premier League game on Saturday.
