Ryan Giggs has warned Manchester United that they need the victory more than Tottenham ahead of Saturday’s crunch Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils head into the game looking to get back to winning ways in the top flight after their shock 2-1 loss to Huddersfield Town last weekend.

That surprise defeat last weekend caused them to lose ground on Manchester City, leaving them second in the table and five points behind the leaders.

Tottenham, meanwhile, were in fine form last weekend when they thrashed Liverpool 4-1 at Wembley to move level on points with Manchester United.

And former Manchester United midfielder Giggs believes that Saturday’s game has now become more important for the home team.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Manchester United legend Giggs said: “Manchester United versus Tottenham has always been, both at Old Trafford and White Hart Lane, an attractive game.

“Obviously we’ve got a good record over them at home and I would have said before the last week that Manchester United will win when they face Spurs on Saturday.

“However, I now think that United need to win it more than Tottenham.

“It’s a huge game and the crowd will really be up for it, but if you go after Tottenham they can get you.

“You always want to put in a good performance but United just need a scrappy 1-0 win.

“I think Jose Mourinho and the fans would take that and forget about producing an entertaining performance.”

Manchester United are aiming to challenge for the Premier League title this season after having finished sixth in the table last season.

The Red Devils have not lifted the top flight trophy since their famous final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in the 2012-13 season.

Tottenham, meanwhile, finished as runners-up to Chelsea last season as they looked to win the Premier League for the first time in their history.
