Thierry Henry reacts to Man United’s 0-0 draw at Liverpool
Thierry Henry has his say after Manchester United's goalless draw at Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon
Thierry Henry claimed that Liverpool’s goalless draw with Manchester United at Anfield on Saturday was exactly what he was expecting.
It was another uninspiring affair at Anfield and marked the second goalless draw between the two sides in this fixture, with the game also having ended up 0-0 in the Premier League last season.
Jose Mourinho set up his team to soak up the pressure from Liverpool and try to hit them on the counter-attack.
David De Gea produced a fine save to deny Joel Matip in the first half, while Simon Mignolet kelp out Romelu Lukaku’s first-half effort.
However, the game ended up finishing goalless as both teams had to settle for a point on Merseyside.
And Arsenal legend Henry claimed that the game panned out exactly how most people were expecting.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Henry said: “It was exactly what I expected.
“They gave us a game that we expected, not the one that we wanted to see.
“This is not the first time that Mourinho’s come here with his team and done this type of job.
“I remember well last season Zlatan Ibrahimovic nearly won it with the only opportunity that they had.
“The same thing happened today – Romelu Lukaku nearly won it with the only opportunity that they had to win the game.
“I think he [Mourinho] didn’t want to get beaten.
“That’s exactly what we expected: Liverpool to be on the ball and try to open them up, you know that Man United are not going to try and open them up.
“Mourinho, again, comes here, doesn’t lose and goes away with a point.”
Liverpool return to Champions League action on Tuesday night with a trip to Maribor, while Manchester United travel to Portugal to take on Benfica on Wednesday.
Manchester United are aiming to win the title for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge in 2013.
