Jose Mourinho tells Man United fans that 24-year-old is ‘untouchable’
Jose Mourinho says Romelu Lukaku is "untouchable" in his Manchester United side on current form
Jose Mourinho has said that Romelu Lukaku is “untouchable” in the Manchester United team despite the recent criticism of the striker.
The 24-year-old has been getting used to life at Old Trafford following his move to the club from Everton back in July.
Lukaku has made a strong start with the Red Devils, scoring seven goals in his first 10 Premier League games for Mourinho’s men.
However, the Belgian forward has not scored for Manchester United in his last five outings for the club, with his lack of goals drawing criticism from some people.
But Mourinho insists that he is thrilled by Lukaku’s impact at Old Trafford and says that he is one of the guaranteed starters in the first team at the club.
Speaking at his news conference ahead of Manchester United’s home clash against Benfica in the Champions League on Monday afternoon, Mourinho said: : “What he does for the team is fantastic and to play football for a striker is not just about scoring goals.
“For me, he is untouchable in my team and I think he should be untouchable in the support and the respect he deserves from the fans.”
Manchester United were 1-0 winners over Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon as they kept pace with Manchester City at the top of the table.
The Red Devils are aiming to win the Premier League title this season for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge back in 2012-13.
