Jose Mourinho sends message to Man United fans about Axel Tuanzebe
Jose Mourinho admits he was thrilled by Axel Tuanzebe's display for Man United at Swansea
Jose Mourinho has revealed that he was pleased by Axel Tuanzebe’s performance for Manchester United during their 2-0 victory over Swansea City in the League Cup on Tuesday night.
The Portuguese coach opted to play the 19-year-old defender from the start at the Liberty Stadium as the Red Devils booked their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Goals from Jesse Lingard either side of half time handed Manchester United a comfortable victory in south Wales.
Mourinho opted to deploy youngsters Scott McTominay and Tuanzebe for the Red Devils as he rotated his squad ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.
And the Portuguese coach was delighted by the impact of the pair as Manchester United continued their defence of their League Cup trophy.
Mourinho told MUTV: “The kids are always the kids.
“When they play, it’s nice and it’s good. When they perform well, it’s even better. I think they both had good performances.
“I would say especially Scott, as he had a big influence in the game in a crucial area. He was very comfortable and strong in midfield. I tried to give Axel good protection.
“I think Axel started a little bit shaky but he got stability and had a good performance.”
Manchester United are now aiming to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils head into the game looking to get their title bid back on track after their shock 2-1 loss to Huddersfield Town last weekend.
Manchester United are currently second in the table and five points behind leaders Manchester City after nine games of the new campaign.
