Owen Hargreaves heaps praise on Jose Mourinho after Manchester United's strong start to the season
Owen Hargreaves believes that Jose Mourinho deserves large amounts of credit for the transformation he has overseen at Manchester United this season.
The Red Devils have made a brilliant start to the new Premier League season, winning six of their opening seven games to place them in second place in the table.
Manchester United have also made a strong start to their campaign back in the Champions League, with Mourinho’s men having won both of their opening group games against Basel and CSKA Moscow.
Mourinho took over at Old Trafford in the summer of 2016 but the Red Devils endured something of a stuttering campaign, as they ended up in sixth place in the Premier League table.
However, Manchester United did win both the Europa League and League Cup in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge.
The Red Devils look like a much improved outfit this season following the arrivals of Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window.
And Hargreaves has been hugely impressed by the upturn in form Manchester United have shown this season under Mourinho.
Speaking to BT Sport, Hargreaves said: “Jose Mourinho deserves credit. He is making everyone play better. Ashley Young was effective again [against CSKA Moscow last week].
“Everyone seems to be performing again. The whole team is functioning.”
Manchester United have not won the Premier League title since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.
