Rio Ferdinand could not hide his delight at seeing Manchester United continue to “batter” the opposition this season after their 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Red Devils continued their fine start to the new campaign as they notched up another thumping victory in front of their home fans to underline their status as Premier League title challengers.

Two goals from Marouane Fellaini and strikes from both Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku wrapped up a solid win for Jose Mourinho’s men as they kept themselves level on points with leaders Manchester City at the top of the table.

Mourinho’s side are unbeaten in all competitions this season and they have scored 21 Premier League goals, conceding just twice.

And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand has revealed his delight at the way the Red Devils have started the new campaign.

Speaking to BT Sport on Saturday night, Ferdinand said: “Early goals always calm the nerves.

“They’re battering teams at the moment and they’ve got great confidence. It’s good to see.”

Manchester United are aiming to win the Premier League title for the first time since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.

The Red Devils return to top flight action after the international break when they take on Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday 14 October looking to continue their fine form.
