Sergio Romero has told Jose Mourinho that he is ready to perform for Manchester United whenever called upon this season.

The Argentinian goalkeeper has been largely playing second fiddle to David De Gea at Old Trafford this season following the Spaniard’s exemplary form for the Red Devils.

De Gea has been earning huge amounts of praise for his strong performances for Manchester United this season after a brilliant start to the season for the Spanish shot-stopper.

Indeed, the 30-year-old Romero has only made one appearance in all competitions for the Red Devils so far this season.

However, the Argentina shot-stopper insists that he is ready and raring to go should he be called upon by Mourinho in the coming weeks and months.

Speaking to Manchester United’s website, Romero said: “I’m ready in case the manager says that I’m in the team to play.

“As I always say, I work hard to be ready for whenever the manager or my team-mates need me.

“Then all I have to do when I’m out on the pitch is to try to do my best, trying to help out when I’m required, and trying to make sure that no-one scores past me. That’s my job, isn’t it?”

Manchester United return to Premier League action this weekend with a crunch clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils head into the game looking to bounce back to winning ways after the disappointment of their 2-1 loss to Huddersfield Town last weekend.

Manchester United, who finished sixth but won both the League Cup and Europa League last season, are now five points behind leaders Manchester City in the Premier League title race.
