Graeme Souness has refused to rule Manchester United out of the title race after their loss to Huddersfield, but says Tottenham will be one of the main contenders this season.

The Red Devils suffered a shock 2-1 loss to newly-promoted Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon as Jose Mourinho’s men lost their first Premier League game of the season.

The result left Manchester United second in the table and five points behind leaders Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.

Tottenham, meanwhile, were in superb form on Sunday afternoon as they thrashed Liverpool 4-1 at Wembley to boost their title hopes.

Spurs are now third and level on points with Manchester United heading into their trip to Old Trafford to take on Mourinho’s men next weekend.

And former Liverpool star Souness believes that both clubs will be challenging Manchester City for the title this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Sunday’s game, Souness said: “Don’t write Manchester United out of it as they’ll cause problems.

“But if you are asking anyone who is interesting them in football right now it’s Tottenham and Man City”

Manchester United are aiming to challenge for the Premier League title this season after the Red Devils finished in sixth place in the table last term.

However, Mourinho’s men did win two trophies as they lifted both the Europa League and League Cup last term.
