Martin Keown believes Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur could produce the best game of the Premier League season so far if Jose Mourinho ditches his conservative tactics.

Spurs are in a rich vein of form in the top flight after Harry Kane scored twice at Wembley to help the north London side ease to a resounding 4-1 victory over Liverpool last time out.

The Lilywhites managed to move level on points with Manchester United in second place thanks to their resounding win as Mauricio Pochettino’s side look to challenge for the title.

Manchester United managed to keep pace with Manchester City in the opening seven weeks of the Premier League season before settling for a goalless draw at Anfield earlier this month.

The Red Devils continued to stutter with a 2-1 loss to promoted side Huddersfield Town at John Smith Stadium last weekend to lose ground on their derby rivals Manchester City.

Former Arsenal defender Keown believes Manchester United and Tottenham could play out one of the games of the season at Old Trafford this weekend.

“With this match at Old Trafford, the onus will be on United to play expansively and openly — not least from the fans,” Keown told the Daily Mail.

“If this happens, it could be the best game of the season so far.”

Harry Kane has scored eight times in eight games in the Premier League this season.

Manchester United’s summer signing Romelu Lukaku has netted six goals in eight outings.
