Pat Nevin believes Manchester United will adopt a fairly cagey approach to their Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The Red Devils are looking to make a swift return to winning ways this weekend following a two-game winless run in the Premier League.

Manchester United started October level on points with leaders Manchester City following six victories and one stalemate in the top flight this term.

The 20-time English champions played out a goalless draw with bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield earlier this month following a negative performance.

Manchester United appeared to suffer a hangover from their Anfield trip last weekend after the Red Devils produced a limp performance in 2-1 loss to Huddersfield Town at John Smith’s Stadium.

Former Chelsea winger Nevin believes Jose Mourinho will still adopt a conservative approach to their Premier League clash against Tottenham this weekend despite growing criticism of the Manchester United manager’s tactics.

“You’ll probably get one of the more open games we’ve had all season because Man Untied at home will not be able to steamroll over their opponents,” Nevin told Newstalk.

“It will still be fairly cagey. Don’t expect to see Juan Mata in there!”

Tottenham were 4-1 winners against top-four rivals Liverpool in the Premier League last weekend thanks to goals from Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli.

Manchester United will be hoping replicate their 1-0 win against Spurs at Old Trafford last season before Tottenham went on to finish as runners-up and the Red Devils ended up in sixth place.
