Paul Merson believes there will be “fireworks” between title contenders Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Red Devils will host the north London side looking to recover from a two-game winless run in the Premier League.

Manchester United played out a goalless draw with Liverpool at Anfield earlier this month in what was a negative performance from Jose Mourinho’s men.

The 20-time English champions suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to promoted side Huddersfield Town at John Smith’s Stadium last weekend to end their unbeaten start to the season.

Tottenham, on the other hand, were 4-1 winners against Liverpool at Wembley last weekend thanks to goals from Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli.

Spurs haven’t lost a Premier League since a 2-1 loss to defending champions Chelsea at Wembley back in August.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson warned Jose Mourinho that Manchester United will have to show more adventure at Old Trafford in front of their home supporters for the visit of Tottenham.

“If they go for it, Tottenham have the best away record in the league,” Merson told The Debate on Sky Sports.

“They’ll pick them off. I think Jose Mourinho has to go for it. If he does go for it and Harry Kane is fit, there will be fireworks.

“If Tottenham want to win the title, they’ve got to Manchester United and make a statement. They’ve got to win the game the way Man City are going at the moment.”

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson got his hands on his 13th top-flight crown.

Spurs will host Real Madrid in the Champions League at Wembley mid-week.
