Manchester United have rejected Arsenal’s audacious first offer to sign Anthony Martial, according to reports in Italy.
Italian website TransferMarketWeb, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that the Gunners submitted their first bid to sign the Manchester United forward in the January transfer window.
The same article states that the Red Devils unsurprisingly rejected Arsenal’s initial bid for the 21-year-old as Arsene Wenger looks to prepare for Alexis Sanchez’s anticipated departure.
According to the story, the Gunners are hoping to reach an agreement with their bitter rivals before January but Manchester United will surely be reluctant to sell given the France forward’s start to the season.
Martial was named Manchester United’s player of the month for September following a return of three goals and four assists in his last four games in all competitions.
The Red Devils attacker has scored five goals and made four assists in nine appearances in all competitions to make an impressive start to the current campaign.
Manchester United signed Martial in a £36m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in the 2015 summer transfer window during Louis van Gaal’s spell in charge at Old Trafford.
Martial scored 11 times in 49 games under Van Gaal but struggled during his second season at Old Trafford under Mourinho.
