Jamie Carragher hailed Philippe Coutinho’s wonder goal in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Newcastle United on Sunday evening.

The Merseyside outfit made the trip to St James’ Park looking to record successive Premier League victories.

Coutinho made his second Premier League start of the 2017-18 season after the Brazil international scored a brilliant free-kick at Leicester City last weekend.

The Liverpool number 10 was also on the score sheet in the Reds’ 1-1 draw with Russian side Spartak Moscow in the Champions League mid-week.

The 25-year-old scored in his third successive game in all competitions to break the deadlock at Newcastle.

Coutinho cut in from the left before whipping a finish past Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliott.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher took to Twitter to lavish praise on the Brazilian midfielder for his stunning effort.

Carragher wrote on Twitter: “Wow! Coutinho 1-0. #NEWLIV”

Liverpool failed to hold on for three points after Newcastle equalised within seven minutes of Coutinho’s goal.

The Reds finished September with a disappointing return of five points from four games in the Premier League.

Liverpool signed four players in the summer transfer window in an attempt to improve their squad ahead of a return to the English top flight.

The Merseyside outfit will return to Premier League action with a home clash against Manchester United on Saturday 14 October.
