The African forward has made a brilliant start to the 2017-18 Premier League season following his £39m move to Liverpool from Serie A giants AS Roma back in July.
Salah has already scored four goals in six games in the Premier League to lead the Liverpool goal-scoring charts ahead of Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho.
The former Chelsea winger netted a superb header in a 3-2 victory over 2016 champions Leicester City at the King Power Stadium last weekend.
The 24-year-old has also scored two goals in the Champions League to leave his mark on the Liverpool side following his impressive start to the 2017-18 season.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson believes Salah will be the key man for Liverpool when Jurgen Klopp’s side make the trip to Newcastle United on Sunday.
“I think Liverpool are a certainty here in my opinion,” Merson told Sky Sports News on Friday morning.
“I think they’ll be too quick for them on the break.
“Salah will be the star man with his pace on a lovely big pitch at St James’ Park.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table to secure a return to the Champions League in Klopp’s first full season in charge at Anfield.
The Reds signed Salah along with Hull City defender Andy Robertson, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke and Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer transfer window.
