Danny Higginbotham is confident Liverpool will notch up back-to-back Premier League victories when Jurgen Klopp’s side make the trip to Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool were 3-2 winners against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium last weekend thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah, Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson.

The Reds will be hoping to notch up successive Premier League victories for the first time since August after Liverpool made a difficult start to this month.

Klopp’s men lost 5-0 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium before a 1-1 draw with Burnley at Anfield to lose ground on title rivals Manchester City and Manchester United.

Liverpool have scored 12 times but conceded 11 goals in six games in the Premier League so far to raise serious questions about their defence under Klopp.

The Reds will face their former manager Rafael Benitez at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon as Newcastle look to bounce back from a 1-0 loss at Brighton.

Former Stoke defender Higginbotham is backing Liverpool to ease to a comfortable win against Newcastle despite some of their issues over the past few weeks.

“I think it will be a high-scoring game,” Higginbotham told Sky Sports News on Friday.

“Both teams can score goals. Liverpool, going forward, you’re always expecting them to score.

“I’m going to go for a close game with quite a few goals – but I am going to go with Liverpool to win.”

Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League.
