Paul Merson states his prediction for Newcastle v Liverpool
The Arsenal legend is backing Liverpool to ease to a 3-1 win against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon

Paul Merson is backing Liverpool to ease to a resounding win against Newcastle United on Sunday.
The Reds will make the trip to St James’ Park on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw with Spartak Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Premier League last weekend with a 3-2 victory over 2016 champions Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
The Merseyside outfit have collected 11 points from their opening six games in the Premier League to leave Liverpool five points adrift of leaders Manchester United.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have scored 12 times and have conceded 11 goals in six outings in the Premier League in the 2017-18 season.
Newcastle will be hoping to bounce back against the Reds in what has proven a classic Premier League fixture following last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Brighton.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is tipping Liverpool to ease to a resounding 3-1 win against the Magpies when the Reds come face-to-face with their ex manager Rafael Benitez.
“Liverpool could have won 10-1 in the Champions league after the chances they created the other night,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“With the attacking talent at their disposal they will always create chances and at St James’ Park I don’t see it being any different. Newcastle, backed by their home crowd will also go for it which could play into Jurgen Klopp’s hands.
“I did initially write down 3-0 to Liverpool but I’m going to have to change my mind to 3-1 because I don’t trust Liverpool at the back. However Liverpool are class going forward and I’d be shocked if Newcastle coped with them.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League.
The Reds signed four players in the summer transfer window to bolster their squad for the rigours of competing in four competitions.
