Mark Lawrenson is backing Arsenal to claim a comfortable 2-0 win over Watford in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

The Gunners head into the game after having enjoyed something of an upturn in form, with the north London side having won three of their last four games in the Premier League.

Arsenal are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table, after having beaten Brighton 2-0 at The Emirates before the international break.

And former Liverpool star Lawrenson is tipping Arsene Wenger’s men to claim all three points when the Gunners travel to Vicarage Road to take on Watford this weekend.

Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Arsenal have a couple of defensive worries, with Laurent Koscielny facing a fitness test before this game and Shkodran Mustafi definitely out for a few weeks.

“But the Gunners have built a bit of momentum since their heavy defeat by Liverpool at the end of August, and I am expecting them to carry that form on here.

“Arsene Wenger’s side have won six out of seven games in all competitions since the beginning of September, and the only points they dropped came against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“Along with Burnley, Watford have been one of the surprise packages of the season so far, but they are actually yet to win at home under Marco Silva and I don’t see that changing on Saturday.”

Arsenal have been criticised for failing to sustain a genuine title challenge in recent seasons, with the Gunners having finished fifth in the table last term.

Indeed, Wenger’s men have not lifted the top flight trophy since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign, when they were still playing their home games at Highbury.

The Gunners currently find themselves six points behind leaders Manchester City as they bid to try and challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Despite finishing fifth last term, Wenger did lead his side to a third FA Cup triumph in four years.
