Arsene Wenger reacts to Mesut Ozil’s display in Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Huddersfield
The Arsenal manager opens up about Mesut Ozil's performance in Wednesday night's 5-0 win over Huddersfield

Arsene Wenger has lavished praise on Mesut Ozil for his performance in Arsenal’s 5-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
The Gunners were looking to record a third successive Premier League win following victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley.
Wenger’s record signing Alexandre Lacazette broke the deadlock in the third minute to score his seventh goal of the Premier League campaign following his £52m switch from Ligue 1 side Lyon in the summer.
However, the France striker was forced off with a groin problem at half-time and his replacement Olivier Giroud made it 2-0 thanks to Ozil’s assist in the 67th minute.
The World Cup winner got on the score sheet less than 60 seconds later to put the result beyond doubt before the Germany international teed up Alexis Sanchez to cap a brilliant three minutes for the No11.
Giroud made it 5-0 to allow Arsenal to cement their place in the top four but remain 12 points behind leaders Manchester City.
Speaking to BBC Sport about Ozil’s performance, Wenger said:
“We started well but then we lost our focus and our passing and allowed them to come back into the game.
“Then we got the second goal and suddenly everyone played with more freedom and more technical quality – then Mesut Ozil showed what he can do.”
Ozil has been linked with a move to Manchester United after entering the final 12 months of his current deal.
Arsenal signed the World Cup winner in a £42.5m deal from Real Madrid in the 2013 summer transfer window.
