Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi is back in training ahead of the visit of Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday
Shkodran Mustafi has made a return to first-team training ahead of Arsenal’s home clash against Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday’s north London derby.
The Germany international has been sidelined since October after the centre-half picked up an injury on international duty during Germany’s 5-1 win against Azerbaijan.
Mustafi was forced to sit out losses to Watford and Manchester City as the Gunners dropped out of the top four and tumbled down to sixth place in the table.
Indeed, Arsenal have now conceded 16 goals in 11 games to raise concerns about Arsene Wenger’s defence despite the addition of left-back Sead Kolasinac in the summer.
The Gunners lost 3-1 to Premier League leaders Manchester City in their last Premier League game and will hope to return to winning ways against Tottenham this weekend.
And Mustafi provided the FA Cup holders with a timely boost after he returned to first-team training at the club’s London Colney base on Wednesday.
The German posted the above photo and wrote the following caption: “🔙🔛🔝 May I introduce to you: On the left my amigo @santicazorla and on the right of course #BFG @p_mertesacker 😂✌🏼 #backintraining #SM20 #COYG @arsenal”
Mustafi moved to Arsenal in a £35m deal from La Liga side Valencia in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The former Everton defender was linked with a switch to Serie A in the summer but a deal failed to materialise.
