Andy Gray explains why Aaron Ramsey is such a key player for Arsenal this season
Andy Gray has talked up Aaron Ramsey’s importance to Arsenal following the midfielder’s recent fine form for the north London side.
The 26-year-old has been earning plenty of praise for his performances for the north London side in recent weeks and he has scored two goals and made one assist in his last two appearances for the Gunners.
Ramsey will be hoping to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Arsenal in the coming weeks and months as he bids to help the Gunners challenge for major honours.
And former Everton star Gray has been hugely impressed by what he has seen from the Wales international in an Arsenal shirt in recent weeks.
Speaking to beIN Sports, Gray said: “I was thinking at the weekend, as important as it is to have Sanchez and Ozil back in the group and playing and influencing the game, I think his (Ramsey) re-emergence as a fit footballer as well has helped them enormously.
“I don’t think it’s any surprise that they’ve gone on this good run when Aaron Ramsey has been contributing.
“We’ll have a look at his contribution, the story of Ramsey’s game (against Swansea).
“Plenty of touches, that’s what I mean, if you’ve got Ramsey back in the side, that’s a midfield player.
“You want him central, I’ve always said that.”
Arsenal are back in Europa League action on Thursday night with a home clash against Red Star Belgrade.
The north London side then turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs and their crunch clash against Manchester City at The Etihad on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners, who finished fifth last term, are currently fifth in the table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after 10 games of the new season.
