Gary Neville sends warning to Mesut Ozil after Arsenal’s win over Tottenham
Gary Neville wants to see Mesut Ozil produce consistent performances for Arsenal in the coming weeks and months
Gary Neville has warned Mesut Ozil that he must continue to prove his critics wrong by replicating the type of performance he produced for Arsenal against Tottenham on Saturday.
The Germany international was named as the man of the match as he helped to inspire the Gunners to a brilliant victory over their bitter local rivals at The Emirates.
Ozil set up Arsenal’s first goal with a free-kick delivery for Shkodran Mustafi, before Alexis Sanchez made it 2-0 for the home side shortly after.
The 29-year-old playmaker has often been criticised for his inconsistent performances for Arsenal in recent months but he was the star of the show against Spurs on Saturday.
However, former Manchester United defender Neville has now warned the playmaker that it’s time for him to start performing like that on a regular basis for the Gunners.
Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game on Saturday, Ozil said: “He’s set himself a standard today in terms of the way in which he’s played, the way in which he’s worked and the way in which he’s applied himself.”
Arsenal return to Europa League action on Thursday night when they take on Cologne in Germany.
The north London side then get their Premier League bid back on track with a trip to Burnley on Sunday afternoon as they look to close the gap to leaders Manchester City, who are currently 12 points ahead of the Gunners.
