Gary Neville hails Arsenal’s unsung hero against Tottenham
Gary Neville heaps praise on Shkodran Mustafi for his solid display for Arsenal v Tottenham
Gary Neville picked out Shkodran Mustafi for special praise for his performance in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday.
The German defender was in impressive form for the north London side as Arsene Wenger’s men claimed the three points thanks to a fine derby display.
It was Mustafi who opened the scoring for the Gunners when he headed home Mesut Ozil’s free-kick midway through the first half at The Emirates.
And Alexis Sanchez then made it 2-0 to the home side shortly after when he fired home from close range after great play from Alexandre Lacazette.
Mustafi was in solid form throughout on Saturday, but Neville picked Ozil as his man of the match in the game.
But Manchester United legend Neville was also keen to praise Mustafi for his solid display in defence for the Gunners on Saturday.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville said: “Shkodran Mustafi, I have to say, was probably closest to Mesut Ozil in terms of man of the match.
“He was the scorer of the first goal and made a couple of great blocks, one on Harry Kane in the second half which was critical.”
Arsenal return to Premier League action on Sunday when they travel to Burnley in the top flight.
The Gunners, who travel to Cologne in the Europa League on Thursday, still remain 12 points behind leaders Manchester City in the table after 12 games of the new campaign.
