Arsene Wenger told 21-year-old must start for Arsenal v Tottenham
Charlie Nicholas tells Arsene Wenger to play Alex Iwobi for Arsenal against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday
Charlie Nicholas has urged Arsene Wenger to play Alex Iwobi from the start for Arsenal in their crunch clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The Gunners head into the crunch derby clash looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League after the disappointment of their 3-1 loss to Manchester City before the international break.
That result left Wenger’s men in sixth place in the Premier League and 12 points behind leaders Manchester City after 11 games of the new campaign.
Spurs head into the game looking to continue their good form, with the Lilywhites having beaten Crystal Palace before the international break to keep them third in the table.
Iwobi, 21, has only started four Premier League games for Arsenal so far this season, but Nicholas wants to see him handed his chance by Wenger this weekend.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Nicholas said: “I’d play Alex Iwobi.
“I’d have Aaron Ramsey in central midfield with Granit Xhaka, but my concern is that Wenger sticks with his principle of playing two holding midfielders, even though he doesn’t have the right players to play in those positions.”
Arsenal are aiming to try and win the Premier League title for the first time since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
The north London side finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term but won the FA Cup for the third time in four years, beating Chelsea in the final back in May.
