Arsene Wenger told to restore Jack Wilshere to Arsenal starting line-up right now
Jack Wilshere should be restored to the stating line-up for Arsenal, according to Martin Keown
Martin Keown believes that it is time for Arsene Wenger to begin starting Jack Wilshere for Arsenal after his strong form this season.
The midfielder has been working his way back to full fitness after having struggled with a string of injury problems over the last few seasons.
Wilshere spent last season on loan to Bournemouth but is now back at Arsenal and fighting for a place in the first team in Wenger’s side.
The midfielder has been putting in impressive performances in the Europa League for Wenger’s men and he looked sharp when he came off the bench in the second half of Arsenal’s loss to Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.
Wilshere has made eight appearances in all competitions for Arsenal so far this season, but is yet to start a Premier League game for the north London side.
And former Arsenal star Keown feels that it’s about time that Wilshere is restored to the starting line-up for the Gunners.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Keown said: “This defeat [at Manchester City] proved that it is time for Jack Wilshere to return to Arsenal’s first team.
“Arsene Wenger’s game plan was to stop Manchester City playing and for periods, it worked.
“But where was Arsenal’s midfield creativity? They were not able to play the way they wanted in the final third and that is where Wilshere would have made a difference.
“He commits defenders, he creates space, he finds that pass for Alexis Sanchez or Alexandre Lacazette.”
Wilshere will be hoping to start for the Gunners when they take on local rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their next Premier League game after the international break on Saturday 18 November.
Arsenal are already 12 points behind leaders Manchester City in the title race.
