Ian Wright: What I really think about ‘fantastic’ Arsenal signing
The Arsenal legend opens up about Gunners summer signing Alexandre Lacazette
Ian Wright has hailed Arsenal summer signing Alexandre Lacazette as a “fantastic” striker.
The Gunners spent a club-record £52m fee on Lyon striker Lacazette in the summer transfer window to improve their attacking options.
The 26-year-old moved to the Premier League after he scored 100 goals in 201 games in all competitions for the French club.
Lacazette scored on his Premier League debut with the opener inside two minutes of Arsenal’s 4-3 win against Leicester City at The Emirates.
He scored twice in victories over Bournemouth and West Brom but failed to score in Arsenal’s opening four games on the road.
Lacazette ended that run with goals in successive games at Everton and Manchester City, despite starting on the bench at the Etihad Satadium.
The French striker helped Arsenal to ease to a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur with an assist in the north London derby last weekend.
Former Arsenal striker Wright heaped praise on Lacazette despite Wenger’s sparing use of his club-record signing.
“Lacazette is awesome,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I genuinely think he is a fantastic goal-scorer.”
Arsenal were 1-0 winners against Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon after Alexis Sanchez scored a dramatic winner from the penalty spot in the second minute of added time.
