Thierry Henry opens up about Alexis Sanchez’s commitment to Arsenal
The Arsenal legend insists Alexis Sanchez's performance in Saturday's north London derby proves his continued commitment to Arsenal
Thierry Henry believes Alexis Sanchez is committed to Arsenal judging by the forward’s performance in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby.
The Gunners forward has been heavily linked with a potential move to Manchester City over the past few months after entering the final year of his Arsenal contract.
Sanchez was criticised for a subdued display in Arsenal’s 3-1 loss at the Premier League leaders before the international break as Arsene Wenger started the want-away forward at Manchester City.
However, the Chile international was back to his best during the Gunners’ impressive 2-0 win against Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Sanchez doubled the home side’s lead after the 29-year-old finish high into the roof of the net past Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
The South American has netted two goals and made two assists in nine appearances in the Premier League in the 2017-18 season so far.
Arsenal legend Henry believes Sanchez’s north London derby highlights his continued commitment to Arsenal on the pitch.
“Sanchez wanted to leave, we all knew that,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“There were question marks about whether he was trying or not. He had six months where he was struggling in a way but on Saturday I saw an Alexis Sanchez like we used to see before.
“I thought he was outstanding.”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term to miss out on a spot in the Champions League.
The Gunners won the FA Cup for the third time in four seasons.
