Craig Bellamy: Arsenal’s derby performance was their best in three seasons
The former Liverpool striker praises Arsenal for producing their best performance in two or three seasons
Craig Bellamy has claimed that Arsenal’s performance in a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in their north London derby was their best in three seasons.
The Gunners started the derby clash as underdogs following a disappointing 3-1 loss to Premier League leaders Manchester City before the international break.
However, Arsenal produced a brilliant display to outwit their local rivals thanks to goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez in the first half at The Emirates.
Arsene Wenger’s side managed to show more commitment and desire than Tottenham despite Spurs’ reputation as one of the Premier League’s hardest-working teams.
The Gunners are in sixth place but a point behind fourth-placed Tottenham following a mixed start to the Premier League campaign.
Former Manchester City striker Bellamy hailed Arsenal’s derby performance as their best in two or three seasons.
“That was the best I’ve seen Arsenal play in a good two or three seasons,” Bellamy told Sky Sports.
“I thought they were outstanding. It was clear about their pressing but their organisation and their work rate was just as impressive, which it needed to be against a very good Tottenham team.”
Wenger signed a new two-year deal in the summer despite Arsenal finishing in fifth place in the Premier League table last term.
The Gunners were 2-1 winners against defending champions Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley back in May.
Arsenal signed Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and Schalke 04 defender Sead Kolasinac in the summer transfer window.
Wenger’s men will make the trip to Burnley in their next Premier League game at Turf Moor on Sunday.
