Paul Merson tells Arsenal star to leave for his own good
Paul Merson believes that Jack Wilshere would benefit from a transfer away from Arsenal overseas
Paul Merson believes that Jack Wilshere would benefit from a transfer abroad away from Arsenal.
The England midfielder has been working hard to win a place in the Arsenal first team this season after having struggled for form and fitness over the last few years.
Wilshere was shipped out on loan to Bournemouth last season as he got some regular playing time in the Premier League under Eddie Howe.
The 25-year-old is now back at Arsenal as he bids to hold down a regular spot in the first team at The Emirates.
Wilshere has been in impressive form so far this season and has won praise for some of his performances for the Gunners in the Europa League.
However, Merson reckons that the England midfielder would benefit from a stint abroad and touted AC Milan as a possible destination for Wilshere.
Merson told Sky Sports: “The way he plays, I think going abroad probably suits him and his game, otherwise he is going to go to a relegation-battling team, and that is not his game.
“He needs to get on the ball and play football and be in a team that really are going to have a lot more of the ball than not. So probably abroad to an AC Milan or somewhere like that.”
Wilshere will be hoping to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Premier League action next weekend with a crunch clash against Tottenham Hotspur at The Emirates.
The Gunners are aiming to bounce back to winning ways after the disappointment of their 3-1 loss to Manchester City at The Etihad last weekend.
