Mark Lawrenson predicts where Arsenal will finish in title race after derby win
The Liverpool legend rules out Arsenal winning the Premier League the title this season
Mark Lawrenson has ruled out Arsenal challenging for the Premier League title despite a brilliant 2-0 derby win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
The Gunners bounced from a 3-1 loss to Premier League leaders Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium before the most recent international break.
Arsenal, though, defied their critics with a commanding 2-0 victory over their north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at The Emirates.
Mesut Ozil produced a eye-catching performance to tee up Shkodran Mustafi to break the deadlock before Alexis Sanchez doubled their lead.
Arsene Wenger’s side are 12 points behind Pep Guardiola’s men at the top of the Premier League table.
The Gunners haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when the north London side managed to go through the campaign unbeaten.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson ruled Arsenal out of the title race this season.
“Arsenal are still a very good side. The argument is Arsenal aren’t going to win the league,” Lawrenson told BBC Radio 5 Live.
Arsenal have won the FA Cup in three of the past four seasons to dominate the competition, but the Gunners haven’t troubled the top four.
The Gunners suffered their first Europa League loss of the season following a 1-0 defeat by Bundesliga outfit Cologne.
