Robbie Savage: Why Mesut Ozil is such a frustrating Arsenal player
The BT Sport pundit explains why Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is so frustrating to watch

Robbie Savage believes Mesut Ozil’s lack of consistency makes the Arsenal midfielder a frustrating player.
The Germany international has been regularly criticised for his lack of commitment in Arsenal’s biggest games with his poor attitude setting a tone of the Gunners team.
Arsenal suffered heavy defeats at their top-six rivals Liverpool and Manchester City and Ozil received the brunt of the criticism for the disappointing performances.
However, the World Cup winner responded in style with his best performance of the 2017-18 season so far in Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby last weekend.
Ozil produced a brilliant free-kick to tee up Shkodran Mustafi to break the deadlock in the first half before Alexis Sanchez sealed three points with a finish high into the roof of the net.
The 29-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season amid talk of Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho bringing the German midfielder to Old Trafford.
Former Leicester midfielder Savage opened up about what he finds really frustrating about Arsenal playmaker Ozil.
“It frustrates me to watch him because he is a brilliant player when he’s on it,” Savage told BT Sport. “But he’s not on it enough. He’s got to be doing this against Manchester United, Chelsea, West Brom…”
Ozil moved to Arsenal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in a then club-record £42.5m deal in the 2013 summer transfer window.
