Martin Keown believes that Jack Wilshere deserves a regular run in the Arsenal team in the coming weeks and months after his impressive displays in the Europa League.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes once again during the Gunners’ goalless draw with Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League at The Emirates on Thursday night.

Wilshere has made a total of seven appearances in all competitions for Arsenal so far this season but has been limited to just one single substitute appearance in the Premier League.

And former Arsenal defender Keown believes that it’s time for Wilshere to be handed a regular spot in the first team at The Emirates so he is given a chance to prove himself.

Speaking to BT Sport on Thursday night, Keown said: “What I like about Jack is the way he is able to thrust from midfield like no other player can in that central position.

“I don’t see too many players who can do what he does in the English Premier League.

“That’s why the debate will rage as to whether he should be gong into the England squad, even at this early stage of his recovery.”

Arsenal return to Premier League action on Sunday with a crunch clash against Manchester City at The Etihad.

The north London side are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table and nine points behind the leaders after 10 games of the new campaign.

Arsenal, who finished fifth and won the FA Cup last term, haven’t won the title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
