Arsenal have made Leon Goretzka their number one transfer target next year, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mirror is reporting that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has singled out the 22-year-old Schalke midfielder as the north London club’s top transfer target next summer.

The same report states that Arsenal are “chasing” the Germany international, whose current contract at Schalke is due to expire at the end of this season.

However, it’s also claimed that the Gunners will face competition from Premier League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool, as well as the likes of Bayern Munich and Juventus.

The story also reports that that Schalke have offered Goretzka a new contract, but the German club could sell the midfielder in January if he turns it down.

The article also claims that Arsenal “stand to lose” both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez next year, with both players out of contract in the summer.

Arsenal are bound to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks as the January transfer window draws nearer.

The Gunners take on Cologne in the Europa League on Thursday night before returning to Premier League action with a trip to Burnley on Sunday.
