Alan Smith has criticised Mesut Ozil for his performance in Arsenal’s 3-1 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Germany playmaker featured for the full 90 minutes at The Etihad but was unable to prevent the Gunners from slipping to a 3-1 defeat by Pep Guardiola’s men.

Ozil has struggled to produce consistent performances for the north London side this season as the speculation about his future continues.

The 29-year-old currently has less than a year left on his contract at The Emirates and it remains to be seen whether he will sign a new deal with the north London club.

Arsenal suffered another damaging defeat on Sunday as the Gunners fell 12 points behind the Premier League leaders after 11 games of the new campaign.

And former Arsenal striker Smith was less than impressed by Ozil’s performance for the Gunners at The Etihad on Sunday.

Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, Smith said: “He’s did nothing today for me, in a big game, to persuade Arsenal to re-sign him.

“It’s not clear at the moment whether he actually wants to stay or if he wants to go. Is it all about money? I don’t know.”

Arsenal will look to get back to winning ways in the Premier League when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at The Emirates after the international break on Saturday 18 November.

The north London side are currently sixth in the table and look as if they are already facing a tough task in trying to win the title this season.
