Mesut Ozil outlines his demands to sign new Arsenal contract – report
Mesut Ozil wants the number 10 shirt at Arsenal as part of the terms of his new contract at the club, say reports
Mesut Ozil wants Jack Wilshere’s number 10 shirt as part of the terms for him signing a new contract with Arsenal, according to reports in the British media.
The Sun is reporting that the Germany playmaker wants to be handed the shirt number as part of his new contract at The Emirates.
Ozil’s situation at Arsenal has been a relentless source of speculation throughout the summer transfer window, with the Germany international having entered into the final 12 months of his contract at the club.
The same report claims that Ozil could still yet sign a new deal with the north London club, but is demanding the number 10 shirt to boost his brand as part of the package.
The 29-year-old midfielder is also thought to want a significant increase in his weekly salary, which is believed to be around £150,000 a week at present.
Ozil was unable to prevent Arsenal from slipping to a disappointing 3-1 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League at The Etihad on Sunday afternoon.
That result left Arsenal with it all to do in the Premier League title race, with Arsene Wenger’s men currently sixth in the table and 12 points behind the leaders after just 11 games of the new campaign.
