Gary Neville sends honest message to Arsenal fans about Mesut Ozil
Gary Neville heaps praise on Mesut Ozil following his display in Arsenal's win over Tottenham
Gary Neville has admitted that Mesut Ozil was by far the best player on the pitch for Arsenal in the 2-0 win over Tottenham in Saturday’s north London derby clash.
The Germany playmaker was in fine form as he set up Shkodran Mustafi for Arsenal’s opening goal at The Emirates with a fine free-kick.
Ozil was in impressive form throughout for Arsene Wenger’s men and he earned plenty of praise for his performance as he lined up alongside Alexis Sanchez and Alexandre Lacazette up front for the Gunners.
The 29-year-old has often come in for criticism for his performances for Arsenal since his move to the north London club from Real Madrid back in 2013.
However, former Manchester United defender Neville picked Ozil as his man of the match following his sparkling display for the Gunners on Saturday, and explained his decision after the game.
Neville told Sky Sports: “It was an outstanding team performance for Arsenal but he [Ozil] has been the best player on the pitch.
“I’ve been critical of him at times. He’s not always had my vote – but he got it today.”
Arsenal return to Europa League action on Thursday night when they take on Cologne in Germany after having already booked their place in the last 32.
The north London side will then turn their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their clash with Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.
