Gary Lineker makes admission after Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Tottenham
Gary Lineker has his say after Arsenal's 2-0 win over Tottenham on Saturday afternoon
Gary Lineker admits that Tottenham struggle in the big games after they were thoroughly beaten by Arsenal in Saturday’s north London derby clash at The Emirates.
The Lilywhites were outplayed by their bitter local rivals at The Emirates as they struggled keep up with a rampant Arsenal display.
Arsenal took the lead in the 36th minute at The Emirates when Shkodran Mustafi headed home from a free-kick.
Alexis Sanchez, who was brilliant throughout, then made it 2-0 to the home side moments later when he bundled home from close range.
Tottenham came close to finding an equaliser in the second half through Eric Dier and Son Heung-min but the Lilywhites ended up losing to their neighbours.
The defeat came just a few weeks after the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford before the international break.
And former England star Lineker admits that Spurs will have to step their game up in the big encounters if they want to challenge for the top honours.
Lineker tweeted during Saturday’s game: “Big gameitis again for Spurs thus far.
“For all their progress under Pochettino the lack of victories over the big teams is alarming.”
He then added: “Spurs have won 4 of their last 86 games away to Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.”
Arsenal’s win left them one point behind their local rivals after 12 games of the new campaign.
They return to Europa League action on Thursday night with a trip to Cologne.
