Mesut Ozil rates Alexis Sanchez’s display in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Tottenham
The Arsenal midfielder praises Alexandre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez after Saturday's 2-0 win over Tottenham
Mesut Ozil has admitted that he was delighted for Alexis Sanchez after the Arsenal forward scored his side’s second goal in a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday’s north London derby.
The German midfielder could count himself a tad fortunate to be named in Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up following a disappointing performance in a 3-1 loss to Premier League leaders Manchester City before the international break.
However, Ozil justified his inclusion with a brilliant free-kick to find compatriot Shkodran Mustafi, who steered a powerful header past Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Arsenal extended their lead in the 40th minute when Alexandre Lacazette and Sanchez combined before the Chile international finished high into the roof of the net.
Ozil and Sanchez have both entered the final 12 months of their current Arsenal deals to raise the possibility of the Gunners duo leaving for nothing next summer.
But the World Cup winner underlined his happiness playing alongside Lacazette and Sanchez following Arsenal’s resounding 2-0 win over Tottenham on Saturday.
“I really enjoy it [playing in games like these]. We have good quality. Lacazette and Alexis are always dangerous,” Ozil told Sky Sports.
“They can always score. Alexis showed his quality today. I’m really happy for him to score against Tottenham.”
Arsenal moved to within a point of fourth-placed Tottenham following their emphatic win in the first north London derby of the season.
The Gunners are looking to win their first Premier League title since 2003-04.
