Ray Parlour warns Arsenal about signing 25-year-old forward in January
Ray Parlour doubts whether Wilfried Zaha has what it takes to replace Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal
Ray Parlour doubts that Wilfried Zaha is the man to replace Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal after the Gunners were linked with a move for the Crystal Palace forward.
Zaha has emerged as a potential January transfer target for the Gunners as the speculation about Sanchez’s future at The Emirates continues.
Sanchez, like Mesut Ozil, looks set to leave Arsenal either in January or in the summer after he entered into the final few months of his contract at Arsenal.
The north London side have been linked with a move to sign Zaha as a possible replacement for Sanchez, who Arsenal could move to sell in January rather than risk losing him on a free next summer.
However, Arsenal legend Parlour is not convinced that the 25-year-old Crystal Palace man has enough quality to step into Sanchez’s boots at The Emirates.
Speaking to talkSPORT on Monday, Parlour said: “He’s a player that can run at you, he’s got great pace.
“He’s probably lacking a little bit of goals, he gets in some great positions and maybe his end product is not as good as it should be.
“But I think it will improve and in a better team you might get more out of him. You’re going to be losing 25 goals a season. That’s the big problem Arsenal have, how do you replace that?
“Whether Zaha will be the man, I don’t think he scores as many goals as he should do because he gets in some really good areas.
“But certainly if you can get the best out of him, Zaha, he’s very dangerous on his day. He can change a game for you, like he has done in recent weeks for Palace.”
Sanchez and Ozil will both be expecting to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime with a crunch clash against Tottenham Hotspur at The Emirates.
The Gunners head into the game looking to get back to winning ways after their defeat by Manchester City before the international break.
