Ian Wright has quashed talk of a gulf between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs have been making steady progress under manager Mauricio Pochettino since his appoointment as Tim Sherwood’s successor in 2014.

Tottenham finished in third place behind Arsenal in 2015-16 before Spurs ended up as runners-up last season having challenged Chelsea for the title.

The Lilywhites appear to be making strides under their Argentinian manager, while there is a sense Arsenal are regressing under Arsene Wenger.

Tottenham made the trip to the Emirates Stadium with a four-point cushion over Arsenal last weekend after the Gunners lost 3-1 to leaders Manchester City before the international break.

However, Wenger’s side produced their best performance of the season to secure a comfortable 2-0 victory over their derby rivals at The Emirates.

Goals from Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez helped to move Arsenal to within a point of fourth-placed Tottenham.

Perhaps inspired by Arsenal’s impressive derby win, Wright has now declared that there is no significant gap between the two north London clubs.

“There isn’t really a gulf, it’s just that Tottenham are progressing and we’re seeing it before our very eyes,” Wright told The Debate on Sky Sports.

“We’re seeing a very good manager [Mauricio Pochettino], the stadium happening and them start to make a difference. It’s not the Spurs we used to see.”

Tottenham have impressed in the Champions League this season with victories over Borussia Dortmund home and away as well as a 3-1 win against defending champions Real Madrid at Wembley.
