Cesc Fabregas has insisted that he is keen to sign a new contract at Chelsea, despite the speculation about his future.

The 30-year-old midfielder has been an important figure in the Chelsea team since he signed for the Blues from Barcelona back in 2014.

Fabregas has helped Chelsea to win two Premier League titles during his first three seasons at the club and he’ll be hoping to add more silverware to his collection this term.

The former Arsenal captain’s current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2018 but he has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks.

However, Fabregas has moved to play down the speculation about his future by insisting that he is keen on extending his stay at Stamford Bridge beyond this season.

Fabregas is quoted as saying by Metro: “Would I like to renew? Yes, because it is a club that has always treated me well.

“I believe the fans have a lot of respect for me and I have a lot of respect for them. I have given my all for the club for the last three-and-a-half years.

“This is a fantastic club for me and I have had a fantastic time here. Hopefully another contract will happen. Time will tell.”

Fabregas will be hoping to feature for Chelsea when the Blues return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a crunch clash against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea won the same fixture by a 4-0 scoreline last season and also knocked the Red Devils out of the FA Cup at their home ground.

However, Manchester United are currently four points ahead of the Blues in the Premier League table.
