Jamie Carragher reacts to Alvaro Morata’s goal in Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Man United
The Liverpool legend lavishes praise on Alvaro Morata following the Chelsea striker's winner against Manchester United
Jamie Carragher heaped praise on Alvaro Morata after the striker’s brilliant header helped Chelsea secure a 1-0 win against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.
The defending Premier League champions started their top-of-the-table clash nine points behind leaders Manchester City after the Citizens were 3-1 winners against Arsenal at The Etihad.
Chelsea were on top throughout much of the first half but Phil Jones’ own goal was ruled out after Morata was alleged to have pushed the Manchester United defender.
The summer signing had failed to score since his equaliser in a 2-1 victory over La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital in the Champions League back in September.
Morata ended his drought with a world-class header after exploiting the space between Manchester United centre-halves Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling in David De Gea’s area.
Former Liverpool defender lavished praise on Morata for his world-class header to secure three points for the title holders against their bitter rivals Manchester United.
“What a ball from Azpilicueta and what a header from Morata, who I thought was really good today,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “It was a brilliant goal.”
The 24-year-old has scored seven goals in 11 games in the Premier League to make a solid start to his Chelsea career following a £58m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Chelsea are looking to win their third title in four seasons.
