Pat Nevin has heaped praise on Cesar Azpilicueta for his solid performances for Chelsea so far this season.

The Spanish full-back has been in top form for the Blues so far this term and he has earned a reputation as one of Chelsea’s most important players in recent seasons.

Indeed, Azpilicueta played every single minute of Chelsea’s Premier League campaign last season as the Blues won the title in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge last term.

The Spaniard, who has also started every Premier League game so far this term aside from the Swansea game on Wednesday, was once again in impressive form for Conte’s men on Saturday when he helped Chelsea to come from behind and earn a 1-1 draw at Liverpool FC at Anfield.

And Nevin was delighted by Azpilicueta’s display, as well as the performance of summer signing Davide Zappacosta on Merseyside.

Writing in his column for Chelsea’s website, Nevin said: “[Against Liverpool] Davide Zappacosta was once again an impressive menace on the right-hand side but you can’t think about that team performance without considering Cesar Azpilicueta. He was immense throughout.”

Both Azpilicueta and Zappacosta will be expecting to feature for Chelsea when the Blues return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime with a home clash against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.

The west London side are aiming to try and defend their title this season but appear they will face an uphill struggle in trying to catch runaway leaders Manchester City.
