Antonio Conte sends message to Chelsea fans about Liverpool FC clash
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte previews their trip to Liverpool FC in the Premier League this weekend
Antonio Conte has revealed that he starting thinking about Chelsea’s game plan for Saturday’s clash against Liverpool on the flight back from Azerbaijan.
The Premier League title holders were 4-0 winners against Qarabag in their penultimate group-stage game to book their place in the Champions League knockout stage.
The west London side made an eight hour flight back to the English capital from Azerbaijan on Wednesday night with less than 72 hours to prepare for their trip to Anfield.
Liverpool squandered a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with La Liga outfit Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday night to damage their confidence ahead of the visit of the title holders.
The Reds produced some scintillating football to race into a 3-0 half-time lead thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in Spain.
However, their defensive problems came to the force once again as Alberto Moreno cost Liverpool two goals before the Reds conceded an added-time equaliser.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Wednesday night about their trip to Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday evening, Conte said:
“We have to work during the flight to prepare for the game, but to be honest we started [preparing] with my staff before tonight so as not to wait until at the last moment.
“I watched the game. Liverpool played a really good first half with great intensity.
“But as you know very well, football is strange. What happened in the second half is very difficult to explain.
“Liverpool in the second half had opportunities to score other goals. They were also unlucky.”
Chelsea are in third place in the Premier League table and three points ahead of Liverpool in fifth spot.
The Blues won the Premier League title with two games to spare last term.
